The Comic Strip

The Matchcover Storyteller

Despite the look of this as an older front-strike matchcover, several sources tell us The Comic Strip actually opened in 1976.  It’s in an 1880 stone tenement building that has been home to clubs, bars and restaurants since the 1920s.

The club is famous for alumni such as Christ Rock, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Romani, Bill Maher, Joe Piscopo  —  the list is long indeed.    The club also holds the Guinness World Record for the longest (50+ hours) continuous stand-up comedy show, set in June, 2008.
