The Matchcover Storyteller
If you look at the 20-strike matchcover pictured here, it’s clearly an Italian Restaurant cover. But on the back, you see it offered everything else from Bar-B-Q Chicken to Waffles. No way would it make it into my Barbeque albums — it’s Italian!

There were two “Spaghetti King”s in Chicago — this one at 3232 N. Cicero (north of Belmont) and another at 1348 W. Morse in the Rogers Park neighborhood. I have no indication if they were competing or existed in separate times, or it it moved. Histories are lacking..
One diner remembers going to this one on Cicero as a child. Bowls of Parmesan were on the tables; his brother said it was sugar and he took a mouthful. Oops!
He also remembers being covered in sauce; the owner put him in the window for 5 – 10 minutes and called him the best advertising he could have!
I’ve seen an image for at least one other matchcover for this restaurant, so I’m keeping a slot open in the album!
