Hudson…in Houston

The Matchcover Storyteller

Talk about minimal information on a matchcover;  a tree glade (maybe) and a simple word on the footer  —  “Hudson”.   Inside, a Houston, Texas address.  This 40-strike cover has some visual impact, but could otherwise be completely overlooked in its minimalism.

“Hudson”, at 11655 Memorial Drive in Houston is a residential community; it’s alternately called “Hudson Forest” (single-family dwellings) and Hudson Oaks” (townhouses).  It’s a prestigious and secluded guard-gated residential community in the heart of an equally exclusive area.  The big difference is that while homes all around it are in the one- to three-million dollar-plus range, homes in Hudson Oaks in particular can still be purchased for a third to a half of that.  Call it an entry point into one of the most exclusive zip codes in the U.S.  Even the more modestly-priced Hudson Oaks has notable HOA fees as part of the gated exclusivity, but also access to a swimming pool, playground and private dog park, all set in wooded beauty.

The land was once the Hudson Boy Scout Camp, established in 1915!  The land was sold in 1970 with a provision that the forested nature of the property be preserved. So roads and home sites wind around mature trees rather than as the usual suburban grid.
