Sid Allen’s

Sid Allen’s opened in 1965 and closed in 1977.  It was in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, somewhat north of the George Washington Bridge, if you know the area. It’s said to have been “continental cuisine which one reviewer said meant higher than usual pricing.

At some point there was an orchestra; there was dancing.   You can find New York Times three-star reviews from 1973 and 1977.  One said the staff demeanor was far more relaxed than the linened, tufted banquette, chandeliered atmosphere; a “black-tie” feeling where leisure was just fine.  Table captains apparently liked to show off and one review says the tableside creation of their Fettuccini Alfredo was indeed something to behold.

Sid Allen himself was described as a fairly famous horse breeder;  I couldn’t find it.

There’s at least one other matchcover besides this, a lovely front striker.  You can also find menus, playing cards and more if combos are your thing.
