There’s Mothers, and then there was Mothers Too. Mothers, the original at 26 W. Division Street in Chicago, opened in 1968 and went on to become a bit of pop culture “must”.
In its early days, it hosted acts like Velvet Underground, Chicago, Cream and Chaka Khan used to do a lot there, molstly before her fame arrived.

It was a setting in 1986 for the Rob Lowe – Demi Moore movie “About Last Night”. (They even named the movie’s fictional bar “Mother’s”). It later evolved into quite the singles spot with one of the largest dance floors in the area. It’s still operating today.
Mother’s Too had a shorter lifespan; it opened in 1989 and served its last drink in 2018 or 2019 (the date is disputed), about one block away from the original Mothers — in fact, the first one did indeed formally become “The Original Mothers” to differentiate. “Too” closed because a new landlord simply chose not to renew the lease.
These are the only two matchcovers I have seen for these two neighborly bars, one for each and both 30-strike rear strikers. The Original Mother’s is from Universal in Chicago, but Mothers Too is from Universal with Eddy Match and made in Canada!
