Alf Oetting

The Matchcover Dtoryteller

Alfred Oetting was from Harvester, Missouri.

He was Republican County Assessor for St. Charles County, Missouri, just northwest of St. Louis in 1940. There is also a note of him still in that job as of 1946. He was a State Representative for a couple of years, 1954-56, until he was unseated by Omar Dames. He was a 1921 charter member of American Legion Post 312 in St. Charles, Missouri and in fact was one of the original 54 founders in 1919 — the charter itself wasn’t signed till ’21.

That’s about it. The matchcover is in the “Minor Political” category (of which there are more than 20,000!). Some have some wonderful stories attached, either making interesting news or perhaps going on to greater political fame.

As a 1919 founder of an American Legion post, I’m going to assume he was a World War I veteran. But that’s about it for Alf…Legionairre, County Assessor and a brief flash across the state legislature. I wanted more from him an it’s just not there — not at the level of mu searches!
